ICP-ACC does not normally use a separate standardised multiple-choice certification exam. Learners earn the certification through an accredited course and the provider's approved assessment of the learning outcomes. That does not mean attendance without participation is always enough.
What assessment can look like
An accredited provider may assess learners through observed coaching practice, paired exercises, reflection, assignments, participation, or a combination of methods. The exact design can differ because the goal is to demonstrate learning rather than pass one universal question bank.

- Distinguishing coaching from mentoring, teaching, consulting, and facilitation.
- Contracting for a coaching conversation.
- Working with team conflict and dysfunction.
- Reflecting on coaching stance and personal impact.
Attendance still matters
Interactive work cannot be recreated by leaving a virtual class open while doing another job. Ask the provider about minimum attendance, camera and participation expectations, missed-session policy, and what happens if the learning outcomes are not demonstrated.
Is the certification valid for life?
ICAgile's public certification information states that there are no renewal fees. Once issued, the credential does not require an annual maintenance payment. Check the current ICAgile Agile Coaching page for the latest policy rather than relying on an old comparison article.
Lifetime validity should not be read as lifetime competence. Coaching capability weakens when it is never practised, observed, or challenged. The certificate remains, while professional credibility depends on what you continue to do.

What to do if a provider promises guaranteed certification
Ask what guaranteed means. A provider can support learners and explain completion requirements, but should still protect the integrity of an accredited program. Request the accreditation details, instructor name, assessment approach, and written attendance policy.
Prepare for practice, not trivia
Before the ICP-ACC course, bring a real coaching challenge and be ready to receive feedback. After the course, schedule regular practice with peers, record reflections without exposing confidential conversations, and ask whether the people you coach are becoming more capable rather than more dependent on you.
Confirm the credential path in writing
ICP-ACC is earned through an accredited ICAgile class and successful completion of the provider’s learning assessment activities. It is not the same as a standardized, centrally administered multiple-choice exam. The provider should explain attendance, participation and assessment expectations before enrollment.
Questions for the training organization
- Is this exact class listed as ICAgile-accredited?
- Which learning outcomes and assessment activities are used?
- What attendance and participation are required?
- When is the credential issued and how is it verified?
- Are there renewal or continuing-fee requirements?
Do not confuse ICAgile’s ICP-ACC with the ICF Associate Certified Coach credential, which has separate education, experience, mentoring and examination requirements.
Assessment is broader than attendance
An accredited provider must evaluate learning against ICAgile outcomes. Activities can include observation, practice, reflection, peer work or other evidence selected by the provider. Learners should participate fully and ask how feedback or remediation works when evidence is incomplete.
Credential maintenance
Verify current validity and renewal information directly with ICAgile because provider memberships, course access and separate professional credentials may have different terms. Keep the digital credential record and course documentation. If an employer asks for “ACC,” clarify whether it means ICAgile ICP-ACC or ICF ACC before presenting the qualification.
Red flags
Avoid providers that promise the credential without participation, cannot show accreditation for the exact class or describe a standardized central exam that the credential owner does not require.
