SAFe DevOps Course Curriculum

Define DevOps as a shared mindset and set of practices across the value stream. Examine the delivery problem, expected business outcomes, continuous security and testing, and the CALMR approach.

Map the path from concept to release, capture process and wait time, evaluate flow efficiency, expose bottlenecks, and use the DevOps Health Radar to understand the current state.

Create solution hypotheses, collaborate with customers, research needs, design for continuous delivery, synthesize ideas into features, and prioritize a DevOps backlog using WSJF.

Develop in small batches, build continuously, integrate frequently, test end to end, preserve quality and security, and stage the solution so it remains ready for deployment.

Move changes safely into production, verify behavior, monitor solution health, reduce deployment risk, and design response and recovery practices.

Decouple deployment from release, stabilize the solution, release value when market and customer conditions require it, measure outcomes, and learn from feedback.

Build shared ownership across product, development, security, testing, operations, and release roles. Examine automation choices, queues, WIP, batch size, handoffs, and flow.

Choose actionable flow, quality, reliability, and outcome measures. Strengthen observability, incident learning, recovery capability, and feedback without turning metrics into individual surveillance.

Assess strengths and constraints, compare perspectives across roles, select the next improvement, and connect the change to a measurable delivery outcome.

Create a sequenced DevOps transformation plan with an owner, baseline, target signal, review cadence, and next experiment for your value stream.

About the SAFe DevOps Certification

Passing the exam earns the renewable SAFe DevOps certification and a shareable SDP digital badge. Course completion also provides a certificate of completion.

The current SDP 6.0 exam is web-based, closed book, and timed for 90 minutes. It contains 45 multiple-choice, single-select questions.

The current passing score is 73%. Scaled Agile may revise exam policies, so candidates should verify the study guide in their learning plan before attempting the exam.

The current policy includes the first two attempts in the course registration fee when taken within 60 days of course completion. Additional attempts are available for a fee under Scaled Agile's retake policy.

Learners receive an unlimited-attempt practice test with question-level feedback. It reflects the exam structure but does not guarantee a passing result.

The certification process includes continuing access to the course workbook and online learning platform, plus support for learning and certification questions.

Certified professionals may claim applicable PMI PDUs and Scrum Alliance SEUs according to the current rules of those organizations.

Keeping the certification active provides access to eligible SAFe Skills, community resources, selected workshops, knowledge content, webinars, assessments, and other current certified-member benefits.

Learning that carries into the workplace

Improve delivery across the whole value stream

SAFe DevOps is useful when product, development, security, testing, operations and release roles improve one delivery system together. The aim is faster flow with stability, security and recovery built into the way work moves.

For DevOps practitioners and change leaders

What you become better equipped to do

  • Map the path from concept to release

Use value-stream mapping to expose waiting, handoffs, rework and bottlenecks across exploration, integration, deployment and release.

  • Apply CALMR as a system

Connect culture, automation, lean flow, measurement and recovery instead of treating DevOps as a tooling project.

  • Build an actionable transformation plan

Assess the current state with the DevOps Health Radar and turn the evidence into a sequenced improvement plan with owners and learning measures.

For the enterprise value stream

What teams and leaders can improve together

  • Shared ownership of delivery

Technical and non-technical roles align around flow, quality, security and release outcomes across the full value stream.

  • Shorter feedback and recovery cycles

Continuous exploration, integration, deployment and release practices make learning faster while reducing the cost of failure.

  • Investment based on constraints

Leaders can direct improvement effort toward observed delays and risks instead of funding isolated automation without system impact.

Prerequisites and Recommended Experience

Scaled Agile does not list a mandatory certification prerequisite for attending the course.

The course is positioned at an advanced level. Familiarity with software engineering, systems architecture, infrastructure, testing, security, release, or operations will help participants connect the practices to real work.

Prior exposure to Agile teams, ARTs, value streams, Lean flow, or the Continuous Delivery Pipeline is helpful but not required.

Participants should have a laptop, stable internet connection, working audio, and access to the Scaled Agile learning environment supplied for the cohort.
